Horror is a literature, film, and television genre meant to scare, startle, shock, and even repulse audiences.
Generally, the protagonists from horror movies/TV shows are usually teenagers/college students from the US such as characters from IT and Stranger Things. In movies, they tend to make silly mistakes that end up getting killed which is the stereotype of horror movies.
Most are usually armed with a hand-held weapon such as a knife or hatchet.

Majority of shots used in horror movies are close up shots and POV to add tension and used to show them killing each over.
The reaction shots can make any horror movie far more terrifying. Using the perfectly edited shot can convey the fear your character is feeling, and it can put the audience in a spot where they get easily scared.
One unsettling and hidden “sound” that is given credit for freaking out an audience that makes them unsettling which is the aim of using sounds.
Horror movies follow a simple narrative structure which can be boiled down to 3 acts: 1) the protagonist encounters a threat; 2) struggles with that threat; 3) escapes the threat.
The location are generally located poorly lit settings and usually in a very isolating atmosphere such as a forest or empty building.The sound track is usually use to add fear and tension to the scene.

Comedy films are "make 'em laugh" films designed to elicit laughter from the audience. Comedies are light-hearted dramas, crafted to amuse, entertain, and provoke enjoyment.
The anchor is intelligent and grounded. This character is often the pillar of their group and uses sarcasm as a comedic weapon.
The comedy genre humorously exaggerates the situation, the language, action, and characters.
Common characteristics of comedy include its use of language such as a ranges from speech to puns, its use of taboo/unique subjects, and its use of incongruence and juxtaposition.
Comedy movies uses quick cuts to create it's humour.

Comedy films tend to have a laughing track in background to tell audience which jokes are funniest.
Action
Action film is a film genre in which the protagonist is thrust into a series of events that typically involve violence and physical feats.
The story is the action of the movie, and the plot is how the story is told. The narrative structure can be either linear or nonlinear. Linear narrative structure is a movie that moves in chronological order.


Common characteristics of comedy include its use of language such as a ranges from speech to puns, its use of taboo/unique subjects, and its use of incongruence and juxtaposition.
Different types of characters from action movies: Protagonist, Antagonist, Deuteragonist, Tertiary, Confidante, Love interest and Foil.
Different camera shots from action films: high-angle shot is a cinematography technique where the camera points down on the subject from above, Low-Angle, Over the Shoulder, Bird's Eye and Dutch Angle/Tilt. It is usually set in interesting location like in the jungle or major city.

A romance novel or romantic novel generally refers to a type of genre fiction novel which places its primary focus on the relationship and romantic love between two people
Characters from romance movies:
the Rival, Best Friend/Horrible Friend, The External Need, Secret Keeper/Truth Teller and The Mentor.
In a romance, we have the external plot arc, an internal character arc for each protagonist, and the Romance Arc—the growth of the relationship over the course of the story.

A main convention of romance is the two characters going through a heartbreak;
narrative - The couple meet and fall in love, but there is someone who disagrees - normally contains emotional feelings, e.g. death, loss of family members.
It is usually setting in a popular area like a big city or the Titanic since it has lots of people.

A thriller is a type of mystery with a few key differences. As its name suggests, thrillers tend to be action-packed and fast-paced with moments full of tension, anxiety, and fear. Without fail, they are plot-driven stories.
They are very similar to horror in how it creates tension and anxiety but unlike horror movies they are more story driven and don't use gore to scare the audience.

Different types of characters from thriller films: Hero (Protagonist), Villain (Antagonist), Father/Mother Figure, Love Interest, Colleague (Side Characters) and Dead Bodies or Victims (to add stakes to the story).
Similar to horror movies, they use similar camera techniques to create tension such as quick cuts, interesting camera angles and solid acting. The sound track is usually use to add fear and tension to the scene

Science fiction is a form of fiction that deals principally with the impact of actual or imagined science upon society or individuals.
They are very similar to horror in how it creates tension and anxiety but unlike horror movies they are more story driven and don't use gore to scare the audience.
Sci Fi Movies Narrative structure: 1) 'big idea/concept like time travel/AI.
2) The science important to the story
3) Character's motivations - Makes story powerful and complex

4) Introduce the problem early on - Something went wrong. 5) Characters finds a solution to the problem
Majority of characters from Sci Fi are generally smart people with unique personalties which makes them important.
The settings is usually set in space with characters wearing space suit costume.

The drama genre features stories with high stakes and many conflicts. They're plot-driven and demand that every character and scene to move the story forward.
Dramatic structures can be linear, or non-linear with flashbacks to give it more depth. The most common plot structure in films and television is a three-act structure with a first act, second act, and third act. Two-act stories often include a climactic midpoint where the stakes rise or the protagonist's goal changes

These are serious stories that hinge on events that regularly happen in everyday life. These film and TV series portray realistic characters in conflict with others and forces of nature. They usually focus on character and usually feature character arc.
Most camera techniques are usually tilted on an angle on one side, which results in a frame that is not level. This type of camera angle is used mostly to create a dramatic effect which can different emotions.
Usually set in in a common location.

Barthes - Semiotics

Roland Barthes stated that Semiology 'aims to take in any system of signs whatever their substances and limits like; images, gestures, musical sounds, and objects. ' (Barthes, 1968). These are as a system of significance.

The 5 elements of horror are suspense, fear, violence, gore, and the supernatural. These elements are used to create an atmosphere of horror and terror.
Romance
Hollywood has been a representative of romantic comedy genre and has provided on love and romantic relationships through what's have been shown. It has an influence on young people on romantic ideas and beliefs represented in romcoms.
Sci - Fi
Sci Fi tend to create very dystopian and very isolating world building with advance AI location/props and messed politics.
Drama
Drama tend to create conflict with complex characters which makes the scenes more powerful.
Fantasy
Fantasy tend to be unrealistic/exaggerate with world building which makes an interesting/unique narrative.

Comedy movies tend to abstract and tend to use taboo subject to create its humour.

Narrative Structure Theory Narrative structure theory by Tzvetan Todorov (1960) is about how the narration in a story is created. In this theory, Todorov mentioned that there are 5 stages that a character will go through; those are Equilibrium, Disruption, Recognition Repair Damage and Equilibrium Again.

Khai begins to see that they either tell the truth or die but still does not know why this is happening to them. Lola mentions the game and notes that this must be the
game, they must tell the demon and each other what their truth is, or they die.
They all begin to think of how they could avoid telling the truth. Khai tries to run away so that she does not have to tell them the truth, but the demon returns and
chooses to tell it their truth next. Khai tells the truth by admitting to cheating on their partner with another member of the group. The demon releases them and lets
them live saying ‘The truth has set you free’ . The other friends see this and decide to do the same when the demon comes for them, believing that they will be safe
once they tell the truth.
